Steph woke up the other day with pillow marks on her face. She hadn’t realized it was over an hour before her alarm would sound until she was already out of the shower. No biggie, she thought. It was Monday and it’d be nice to have something more than instant coffee for breakfast. She cooked a couple of eggs, over easy, with some toast and orange juice.
Steph woke up today barely able to move, both of her legs and her left arm cemented in plaster casts. She was groggy, aware of her whereabouts, but unsure of her immediate surroundings. Sometime overnight, the hospital staff had moved her into her own room.
After what felt like at least an hour, a nurse came in to bring lunch. Steph asked, and the nurse told her that the brain swelling had gone down, and her vitals had been stable for 24 hours.
